My Top 5 Spring Lipsticks… |High Street Spy|

5 Apr

Hello beauties,

As spring is in full swing so I thought I would do little installments of my top 5 make-up picks for Spring, so let’s start off with my favourite make-up, LIPSTICKS!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

*Maybelline Color Sensational~ Electric Orange

One of my favourite lipsticks I literally wore all last summer too, as you can see by the stumpy end! I love orange lipsticks, they’re really pretty and so pretty for spring/ summer. I love these lipsticks a lot, especially the smell of them, which is kind of weird.

*Maybelline Color Sensational~ Shocking Coral

Once again I love this one too, this one is a lot brighter though so it’s not as wearable as it looks best with nothing else going on make-up wise. Both these Maybelline lipsticks look really nice with olive skin tones like myself. You can read a full review of the Maybelline Color Sensational lipsticks here.

*Bourjois Color Boost~ Red Sunrise

As you can I really love these coral pink colours, I feel they suit my skin tone the best. This is the most pigmented of all the crayons I have and has a really nice shine to it also.

*Revlon Lip Butter~ Candy Apple

I picked this one recently in London and I have worn it as an ‘everyday’ lipstick a lot. It’s really good if you want the long wear and colour of a lipstick but want more of a gloss, subtle finish.

*Soap & Glory, Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick~ Fuscia-Ristic

These lip crayons are my favourite, a lot of the time I find these crayons stick to dry patches on your lips but these keep your lips hydrated and give that glossy look with a subtle bit of coral colour. The names of these are also wonderful.

Now for some cheeky swatches for you all:

What are your favourite lipsticks/ glosses, as I’d really like to try some more out and maybe step out my coral comfort zone.

See you all soon,

What I’ve Been Loving at the Moment…

11 Jan

Hello,

Hope your 2014s have been amazing so far?

*COLLABORATION ALERT*

So a little while ago I met Eden (E_GLITTER) on Instagram and instantly loved her pictures, then I saw she has a blog on BlogSpot and of course I had to have a look, and it’s a goodn’. Her blog posts and photos are charming and cute, so into the bookmarks her little blog went. Not only is her blog charming and cute, so is Eden herself, Eden and I bonding over a love of Harry Potter and blogging. She’s only 14, so I predict her blog is going to get bigger and better! Before Christmas I dropped her a message to ask about a collab post, and this post was born! (Completely Eden’s idea!)

edens blog

So after you’ve read this post, go and have a sneaky look at Eden’s wonderful blog to read her half of the collaboration by clicking right here.

So here’s what I’ve been loving right now…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

*Yoshi Satchel Bag

One of my Christmas presents, that is currently a bit too small to fit all my essential (rubbish) I need in for school because it is real leather. So at the moment it’s sitting there all puffed out with a big towel inside of it to hopefully stretch the leather a bit.The colour is just gorgeous, you may be able to tell by now what sort of colours I tend to go for, but my dad actually picked this for me. I am extremely impressed of course!

*One Direction Our Moment Perfume

I don’t feel I need to explain why this is a favourite. But it smelly pretty fantastic besides the fact it is by 5 sex gods.

*TopShop Socks

I have had these frilly socks a little while but recently invested in some more darker coloured ones that aren’t so ‘in your face’. Of course I brought 3 pairs (3 for £8 as I’m sure you are all aware. 😉 ) The grey ones I wear the most because they go with most and I’m boring, but today I have sky blue ones on because I’m feeling in a cheerful kind of mood.

*Elle Magazine

One of my favourite fashion publications out there, I’m a glossy kind of magazine girl oppose to gossip. My dream is to have my names in one of the side bars in Elle, writing about how I’m drooling over  a certain handbag and shoe combo or solving make-up dilemmas. A girl can dream right?

*Bourjois Cream Blush

I love their normal blush but they are usually a bit pricey for me, so when the sales came round I picked up both Bourjois products in this post. I love the creaminess of the blush and how you can just dab a little bit on the apples of your cheeks with your finger and it instantly brightens up your appearance without looking clown like.

*Soap & Glory Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks

A present a got from my birthday from my best ones Ellie and Sarah, and the first Soap & Glory make-up I actually own and they are very impressive. First of all, may we all take a moment to admire the name of the product, a little bit naughty Soap & Glory, but also the 3 sticks inside themselves; nudist, fuchsia-ristic, and plum jam. I would like to give whoever thought of the names of this an imaginary crown, because they are pure genius.

*Bourjois Color Boost Lipstick

The other product that I picked up in Boots sale land, and it’s as good as everyone says they are. Promise. The colour I got (Red Sunrise) is quite a pinky, summer colour, maybe a bit bright for now so I tend to dab it down a bit but I predict I will still be loving it in the summer.

*The Fault in Our Stars by John Green on Kindle

I actually started reading this before Christmas but stopped due to exam revision, but when I saw it on the kindle for 99p I had to download it. (I actually thought they must have priced it wrong or it wasn’t the real book at first!) Just before I finished this post I finished the book that I only started 2 days ago and I still have a lump in my throat. I always feel a bit of a fraud starting a book that is already so well know and raved about, but I decided to jump on the band (book) wagon, and I’m extremely glad I did. John Green you literally genius, not only did you make me cry at a book since Marley and Me, but you also made me realize how special life is. I am all hyped for the film now! Woo. Just downloaded Looking For Alaska so I’ll fill you in on how that one compares.

*Harry Potter, Blott & Paperchase notebooks

You guys probably know I have a fetish for notebooks, and these beauties are my newest purchases (and present from Lauren.) The beach one is my GCSE dance choreography notes, that I started to make at ballet yesterday. Oh’ notebooks, why do you have this hold over me?

Hope you all liked this collab post and Eden’s blog/ post as much as I do!

Remember to go read her post here

(I linked it twice, just to be super sure you went and read it. You better. Go on. Do it.)

See you all soon

Sparkly Vampire Nails…

28 Oct

What’s this? Another post? On a Monday?

Well hello there, I thought I haven’t done a nail look for a while because they’ve been naked due to school, but because it’s half term I got the nail varnish out and painted them myself successfully! *Happy dance*

At the moment my room is being redone, I call it my wardrobe extension, because essentially that is what is going on, to my sparkly new bedroom furniture. (The handles really are sparkly.) I’ve also sorted out my room and nail varnish collection, so I’ve discovered some really lovely polishes that I’ve seemed to abandoned and just like my new bedroom, this nail varnish is also sparkly.

I changed my font to have a green glow, as Halloween as I'm getting ;)

I changed my font to have a green glow, as Halloween as I’m getting 😉

Personally, Halloween has never appealed to me because I’m not into being scared in the slightest, it’s not fun and it’s not nice, Dr Who is as scary as things get in my life. But this does have a bit of vampire-ness to it due to the purple/ darkness, but not just any vampire. No, a sparkly vampire. Fabulous. 😉

Have a little girl crush on Fearne

Have a little girl crush on Fearne

One of the things I would love to do is have my own nail varnish range, and for a budget nail varnish, Miss Fearne Cotton will always win. Every year Fearne Cotton has brought out a range of gift sets for Christmas at Boots. I’m hoping they’re still doing them as they are always really great colours, have a Christmas feel, great quality and at an affordable price. People always buy me the nail varnishes as a present, and they’re always in really on trend colours and in a beautiful box you can reuse too, I even had a little compact mirror that is always with me (event though my friend Olivia broke the case grrrr!) Get yourself to Boots because they’ve brought out the gift sets now for the Christmas, and buy yourself a present, but also I might be giving one away on this blog very soon.

Cranberry Sparks by Fearne

Cranberry Sparks by Fearne

The colour I used was called Cranberry Sparks, which is very Christmas, and not Halloween at all sorry. 😉 It’s not actually a glitter polish, and it’s kind of hard to describe as it’s not 3D or gritty feeling as it’s nice and shiny like a nice painted nail should. This one is from a set of glitter polishes and I love them all, but this one was more Autumn/ Halloween. Is it too early to be wearing glitter? I think not, but maybe not red glitter just yet.

This is surprisingly good for me

This is surprisingly good for me

My mum is a beautitheripist, so she normally paints my nails for me, but I did this all myself so please all admire the finished look 😉

Hope you all liked this not really Halloween nail look. Hope you have a lovely Halloween, if you can call Halloween lovely, maybe if you are into scariness unlike myself it is lovely?

Mwhahahaha

How To: A Braid Within a Braid…

29 Sep

Hello lovelies,

Like always I’ll start off topic and say I think Sundays are my blogging days,  just because it’s a bit of a lazy day and I actually have time to sit down, take some photos, and write. I will blog at other times but I’ve got into a bit of a habit of Sundays, so it’ll probably stay like that. Next, a very huge, monstrous hug and happy jig from me because I am past my 100 followers target, which was a nice surprise for me when I logged on today, slowly and surely I’m getting there and now I have enough of you to fill a Topshop or maybe 2 Boots shops reading my blog. So thank you, I love you guys!

Normally I’m a pretty boring person when it comes to my hair as I actually have no idea what to do with it to make it look nice. I tend to have 3 hairstyles I stick to because my hair is curly, thick and generally not easy to work with which are a side braid, my hair just down, or a messy bun. I wouldn’t say I really like any loads but I’m still on a lookout for a tutorial that isn’t just for people with perfect hair. But when I was on Tumblr I saw someone had done their hair in a simple side braid but put another braid inside of that, so then I decided to give it a go to see how it’s done. Because my hair is thicker than the person in the picture, the inside braid is not as good but here’s my interpretation for you to try out too.

1. Sweep your hair over to one side

Ignore the dark bags under my eyes at the moment.

Ignore the dark bags under my eyes at the moment.

I put my hair over the left side, just because that’s what I do and because I have a side parting, the most of my hair is on the left side of my head anyway. I put some bobby pins at the back just to hold it to the side and to stop the hair falling forward.

2. Split your hair into 3 parts

Oh' look how happy I am splitting my hair in 3 parts.

Oh’ look how happy I am splitting my hair in 3 parts.

Split the hair into 3 parts like you would do to do a simple braid.

3. Take the middle part hair and braid it

Things are getting technical

Things are getting technical

Take the middle part of the hair and braid it, pulling it tight so that it’s neater for later on and it doesn’t fall apart. Also make sure you don’t catch any other bits of hair because then it won’t braid neatly.

4. Secure the small braid in place with a bobby pin or hair band

5. Braid all the hair

6. Tie it off with a thin hairband

Et voilà!

Hope you all liked my tutorial on a new take on a basic side braid and will be giving it a go. Very soon I’ll be putting up a post about a giveaway I’ll be doing soon to see what you’d prefer, so if you aren’t following all ready, give me a follow!

See you soon beauties

My Autumn/ Winter Beauty Wish List…

17 Sep

Hello everyone,

Firstly I want to say sorry for being away from blogging for what seemed like forever. I’ve just been so busy with school work and extra work. I also did my first ever inter-foundation ballet class on Friday, which was sort of a trial class to see if I could keep up and guess what? She said she would happily have me in that class, which is pretty amazing because I’ve haven’t been ballet trained for over 10 years! Anyway, I went completely off topic as per usual!

I’ve had my eye on a few different beauty products and I thought I’d show you my wish list of beauty products for the next few months so I decided to do it for Autumn and Winter as it’ll take me a long time to even have the money to afford half of these products. You guys saw my summer haul so you will probably understand the reason I have no money!

wishlist

1. Maybelline Baby Lips

Okay, I will be getting these, there is no chance that I’m not because I’ve been waiting for these to arrive in the UK for over a year now and finally I can get them! I first saw them advertised in Teen Vogue about a year ago and then I realised that they were only available in America, so I just left it because the majority of make-up things I like are never available here. Then so many bloggers started raving about them and I wanted to get my hands on them and try them out for myself and now the wait is over! That is why it is my no.1 on my wish list for the next few months.

2. One Direction Our Moment Perfume

So I may be a little bit obsessed with One Direction and they could bring out a tissue line and I’d buy it but this perfume is just perfect. It has such a pretty bottle (pink has always been my signature colour) and I do really want a new perfume. It is quite expensive for the larger bottle, so I think this one is going to be going down on my Christmas/ birthday list.

3. Benefit Porefessional Primer

I’ve seen so many bloggers rave about this primer and I never really understood if primers really made a difference to the look of your skin. But when I was in Debenhams a few weeks ago I went to the Benefit counter and ended up trying it on my hand, over the top of a birth mark I have on my hand that is darker and it completely evened that out. It also made my skin look flawless, even and generally perfect, it made such a difference to my hand, imagine what it would do to your face!

4.  Bourjois Paris Colour Boost Lip Crayon

A lot of the products I buy is because I’ve seen other bloggers raving about them so I want to join in with the excitement, and I have had my eye on these crayons for a little while now. I love oranges at the moment and they do have an orange in the range so I will be picking up an orange toned colour when I get round to buying one. I do own the Clinique Chubby Stick, and I go through stages of liking it, because you have to have completely uncracked lips for it to look good and it dries out pretty quickly, so I’ve heard this is the better version of the chubby stick so I am very excited.

5. Sleek I Divine Shadow Oh So Special

About a year ago I was really eye shadow mad, I used to wear them everyday but then I got into eyeliner and packed away my brown and neutral eye shadows. But then so many bloggers look really great wearing eye shadow and like always I’d love to jump on the eye shadow bandwagon. If I had a few more 0s  in my bank account I would own a few MAC palettes by now but then in Superdrug I came across this new brand called Sleek and they are basically the cheap alternative to MAC. I have my eye on this palette which will help me experiment more with eye shadows and it’s only £10!

6. Models Own Eyelash Curler

I’m not really sure why I want an eyelash curler, I just think it’s something that I can add to my make-up back essentials and give my eyelashes a bit of a boost. I’m not sure what eyelash curlers are considered the best but I picked models own because 1) I own their brushes they are such a bargain and 2) they’re pink!

7. Sleek Contour Kit Medium

I have quite a baby face, which means it’s chubby and I have dimples, so contouring has always fascinated me ever since Kim Kardashian revealed how her make-up is done. I’m not sure how easy contouring is to do and if it will make my face more shapely but I’m willing to give it a go. Once again I’ve picked my MAC alternative Sleek. (If you don’t know about Sleek, go into Superdrug ASAP and check them out!)

8. Rimmel Stay Matt Foundation

I really need a new foundation as at the moment I’m mixing my darker BB cream with an ivory foundation because I’m currently in between these colours. I do have quite oily skin and I do get shiny during school, so this foundation really appeals to me. You also don’t have to use a lot of it so you don’t get that ‘cakey’ and a more natural look.

9. Rimmel Scandal Eyes Thick and Thin Eyeliner

At the moment I’m going through a bit of an eyeliner addiction and I like to try out everything from gel, to liquid, to pencil and at the moment I tried out a felt tip style one. The only reason this one appealed to me is because you can make it thin for an everyday look and thicker for a more dramatic eye look and that is the only justification I have. (he he!)

As I’m writing this I’m all wrapped up, feeling a little sorry for myself because I’m poorly! But the only benefit you have from me being off school is that I had time to finish off this post and also I have time to work on more!

See you all soon lovelies!

Review of Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine nail varnish…

19 Aug

To make your Monday a little bit better, why not paint your nails? So that’s where I’m here to help, by reviewing yet another Barry M nail varnish. (woo!)

So I love Barry M nail varnishes as you may know, so as soon as these Gelly Hi Shine nail varnishes came out I headed straight to Boots to pick up one, but because there was an offer on, I got 2, which were Grapefruit (which I’m wearing right now whilst I’m writing this) and Light Blue. They come in some really lovely colours but I decided to get these two colours because I thought these would be the ones I’d get most wear out of.

The two nail varnishes I picked up

The two nail varnishes I picked up

My first plus point is that they were really cheap at £3.99 a bottle, but also there’s always an offer on at Boots which means you can always pick up more than one because your too tempted by the other pretty colours they have on offer. The first colour I put on was the Light Blue, and I used a Sally Hansen base coat first so the nail varnish would last longer without chipping, and started to paint on the varnish. What I found was it felt really rubbery when I was painted on which didn’t make it the easiest to apply and you need to have quite a lot of paint on the brush if you want to do it in one stroke, I wasn’t completely sure if I liked this but I did expect it to be like this due to it being a high shine look.

Light Blue varnish, the first one I used

Light Blue varnish, the first one I used

So I’m not that good at painting my nails and whilst I was painting another coat on my left hand to build up the colour, I accidentally knocked my right ring finger, and catching a bit of the nail varnish. With normal nail varnish it’s quite easy to touch up the nail by just painting over it and I did that, but it started to go weird and sticky, it also didn’t dry when I’d done this, so I ended up taking it off that finger and doing that nail again.

The nail varnish I'm currently wearing

The nail varnish I’m currently wearing

So even though the rubber feel I wasn’t such a fan of I do really love the colours. I’m a really big lover of bright colours so I loved the range offered by Barry M. With one coat it did have a really strong colour, but I did apply two coats and the colour was really strong, just like how it looks in the bottle. Without a top coat it did look quite shiny but not as high shine as I expected it to be. So I did put a Sally Hansen high shine top coat on top of it and it did come out with a really nice glossy shine to them, which I really like. But I found there was another problem with how rubbery the varnish is, they chipped quite easily and once they chipped, the varnish would completely peal off before you had the chance to touch it up. This varnish chipped after a few days of wearing it, so I recommend touching it up straight away otherwise you might catch it and it will peal off.

Generally I did love the colour of the Gelly Hi-Shine varnish and the finished look but the only problem really was how rubbery it was. I’d probably give these a 3 star rating and I’m not completely sure if I’d buy any more but I do love the colour range available, so good job Barry M.

What are your opinions on these varnishes or are there any more you’re loving right now?

My July Favourites…

31 Jul

Hi everyone,

I’ve been counting down the days until I can post my July favourites as this is actually the first time I’ve ever done it so I’m way more excited than I really should be to write this post. When I started writing this blog the world of blogging and vlogging was basically unknown to me, so I didn’t know the ‘typical’ blogging posts, so now I know, I’ve really wanted to do a favourites but I’ve only really felt this month that I’ve really had enough new products to talk about.

Natural Collection Loose Powder

In these hot and humid summer conditions (she says when she notices the sky is full of grey clouds) I couldn’t live without this Natural Collections loose powder, it’s my go to de-shiner otherwise you’d be able to see my shine from space! Mine is in a tan translucent because of my tanned skin but it’s also available in translucent and it’s been a favourite of mine through July because it gives a really flawless matt finish to your skin.

My favourite de-shiner

My favourite de-shiner

Rimmel London Professional eye pencil

If I had to pick a feature on my face I really hated, it would be my eyebrows, I dislike the shape and they’ve become a bit gappy, I used to use a matt brown eye shadow to fill in my eyebrows but they started to become a bit thick and obviously filled in. I actually brought this a while back but tried it once and for some reason I didn’t like it and my mum decided to take it. Since then, I’ve tried other pencils and they’ve been terrible and waxy which I really disliked. But then a few weeks ago I found this Rimmel pencil again and loved it and I’ve been using it everyday since! The colour (001 dark brown) is really good, but also creates a natural finish, the colour also sticks around all day and is really easy to draw on and take off, it also comes with a handy little brush on the lid. Thank god this pencil has made my brows look half decent!

Miss Sporty Studio Lash Eye Liner

Liquid eyeliner has pretty recently been added to my everyday make-up, from a small amount of liner to a winged eyeliner look, this has been my favourite cheap eyeliner I’ve used yet. I’ve been obsessed with winged eyeliner at the moment (see my previous blog post if you want to see how I do it) and this is the easiest liner to do it with. It creates a really bold black colour, and the brush is small so it’s easy to create a non messy line, and the liner itself is really quick drying too, so you don’t find yourself getting another line in the crease. This will also be my August favourite too!

£2.79 worth of pure value for money

Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Lycra Flex Mascara

This mascara was also featured in my previous blog post, and I really do love this mascara. I’ve had a scandal eyes mascara before and it really does create a false lash effect but this one is even better than the original. I love the way you can top up your mascara throughout the day and it doesn’t go thick and heavy at all, I originally picked this up because I was really desperate for a mascara on holiday, and I’m really glad I did.

My favourite 'false lash style' and lengthening mascara

Maybelline Colorsensational

So yes, another make-up product I’ve featured not that log ago in my post Lipstick Loving (click the link if you fancy reading my review in more detail about the product) I’ve been completely obsessed with the orange and orange has become ‘my colour’. I don’t want to bore you by going on about it all again, but take my word for it, they’re brilliant!

Blogging

This is not make-up, but this has been my July favourite because I’ve become blogging obsessed this month, trying to blog everyday when I can. This blog has become my baby and when I get so many of you liking my blog posts and following my blog it just makes my day (and I celebrate by doing a little happy dance. I’m serious.) This is one of my best July favourites and hopefully my favourite in the future too. I hope you love my blog as much as me and thank you so much for reading. You’ve made me a very happy girl. 🙂
