My Name is Maisie… And I’m a make-up-aholic. |High Street Spy|

27 Jul

So I don’t know if any of you have noticed but I have been trying to stick to a blog schedule where I publish posts every Wednesday and Sunday evening, and it was all going well until my parents turned my wifi off without me knowing because of building works meaning I was unable to get onto my blog and write. Failllll. I ideally need to be writing a lot now I have internet as I am away all next week staying with my cousins and actually having a life away from blogs and laptops, (I know disgusting right?) But on the plus side I have some really fabulous collabs coming up, one I am especially excited about as it is slightly different to usual. So watch this space!

*If you would like to collab or guest post with me this summer, please drop me an e-mail at, along with any ideas you may have. I would love to meet some new blogging friends, as well as some new and different posts on High Street Spy*

Ramble over.

At the beginning of this month, myself and my friend Olivia were in The Body Shop in Bournemouth, just after we’d had a spend up in Boots, Liv turned to me and said, ‘right that’s it, we need to go on a beauty spending ban.’ (Of course that is not word for word accurate, but I believe it was something as decisive and dramatic as that was!) And because I literally was broke at this point of the shopping trip I completely agreed, as I knew it was exactly what us and our bank balances needed. Myself and Liv are very similar when it comes to our love of make-up and in a way we sort of encourage each other with the whole, ‘you really suit that lipstick colour’ or ‘buy it, you’ve been saving for ages’ every time we are in any make-up shop, which means of course we have a lot of make-up, but also a lot of make-up we don’t really like/ use, and a lot less money than we had at the start of each month. So we have changed our encouraging to buy make-up to encouraging us not to buy make-up.

If I’m honest, Liv has it easier than me, because everyday I click on the wordpress app or onto Twitter and see all you bloggers raving about a lipstick or an eyeshadow which 9/10 of the time I would properly pick up the next time I was in Boots. (Liv will probably be disagreeing but it’s true 😉 ) Over the past few years to say my make-up collection has grown is an understatement, I’ve gone from a powder and mascara wearing 13 year old to a contouring, lipstick wearing, eyebrow filling 16 year old with a bank statement that makes me want to cry. But I don’t want to waste my mascara do I? 😉 Make-up has always had this appeal to me, because nothing is the same, each brand there is something different, different textures, different colours, different products that are being launched practically every week that I need to try. For blog purposes of course. 😉 No products are the same, you might have an orange lipstick from Revlon but it doesn’t mean it’s the same from the one from Bourjois, so of course you buy both, and it in 5 different shades, and before you know it you’ve filled you basket with products realistically you don’t really need. But then again you get the points on your Boots card so you aren’t completely guilty and it was probably 3 for 2, right?

*13 year old Maisie’s complete make-up bag vs. a tiny amount of 16 year old Maisie’s make-up collection*

So for months now I’ve been spending more than enough money on make-up, and so has Liv, so with the exception of skincare items such as cleanser, for the month of July we are banned from buying beauty items all together, and it’s almost the end of July now and we are still going strong. There was almost one time I almost caved, I was looking at the beauty section in TK Maxx (which is surprisingly good) and I stumbled across some Real Techniques Brushes. Of course I was beyond excited, so I picked up the face brushes kit with the price of £10! I texted a few people with my excitement, as I walked around holding my find, one friend told me to put them down because of the ban, with me replying, ‘it’s not make-up though!’ and Liv actually replying with a text that was equally as excited. Then to cut a long story short I got to the till and my card was rejected. Boo. But if anyone asks I resisted them okay? 😉

Even though I probably haven’t saved any money from the spending ban, due to the fact I’m spending the money I saved on clothes I needed, which I would normally never do, I have come to conclusion I do not need to buy as much make-up as I buy. Then again I already know what I’ll be buying come August! 😀

Has anyone else been or thinking about going on a spending ban, and if so what for and have you been successful or caved in to the calling of the counters or rails?

See you soon,

The Lost & Forgotten OOTD…|High Street Spy|

20 Jul

So I was having a bit of a clean out of my camera and I came across a few blog photos I never ended up blogging about, along with a some OOTD photos. I don’t really know why I never ended up posting it, as you can probably tell by the picture it was actually taken about this time last year on a lovely sunny day up the park with my friend Abbie.

Looking at the outfit a year on and a year older, I’m not completely sure if I would actually wear it now (also that t-shirt is now completely see through, so that might also stop me!) I don’t hate it, but it’s funny to look at my outfits then, compared to what I wear now, so let me know what you think of this little blast from the past. 😉

What am I wearing?

*ACDC T-shirt~ H&M

Review: Soap & Glory, Thick & Fast Mascara… |High Street Spy|

16 Jul

So the other day I went into Bournemouth with my friend Olivia for a bit of shopping, and being the make-up addicts that we are, we had to have a trip to Boots. I was looking for a new mascara, but wanted to try something that was completely new for me or a different brand. So when I saw the Soap & Glory, Thick & Fast mascara for about £10, I decided to pick it up.

First thing first, the packaging is just to die for, I really didn’t expect it to have such pretty packaging so when I took it out the box I was pleasantly surprised. It instantly reminded me of YSL packaging, which is obviously a lot more expensive than the Soap & Glory products are. Both the box and the packaging itself promised a hell of a lot of things, so I was like yay and popped it in my basket.

The mascara formula is super thick and stinks, which I’m not keen on at all, as its so thick (or maybe because it’s new) the brush is coated very thickly and if you don’t wipe the brush it makes your lashes super clumpy and spider leg like which is a look I don’t like at all. I brought the mascara in the shade ‘noir’, and it is a really nice jet black colour if you want really black lashes, I don’t tend to see a difference in black shades as my lashes are naturally black, but if you have brown lashes it will coat them in black really well.

The brush is really weird, and I’m not sure if I really like it, as it’s way too technical. The brush is apparently 7 sided and promised to thicken, lengthen and flick your lashes, so of course I trusted what it said on the box and was pretty excited about it. I’m not the best at maths, but I am pretty sure that it does not have 7 sides, it has a v shaped section and the rest of the brush is round, so that is not 7 at all. I first tried it without reading the box, I never really expect to have to read instructions before using a mascara so I didn’t. I tried to put it on like normal, not really understanding the shape of the brush at all but all I found was it made a bit of a clumpy mess, and I really hated it, making me wonder why I wasted £10 on a completely new brand of mascara instead of just going back to Maybelline ones like I normally wear. Then I went back and had a look on the box and it explained that your first had to use the ‘v’ side first to thicken the lashes, and then twist the brush to create volume and flick, which is actually surprisingly quite hard to due with a pretty thick formula and the weird brush. Sometimes it fanned out my lashed well, normally on my right eye, but sometimes it is clumpy and sticky and not nice at all.

Above is a picture of my right eye which it always goes best on, as you can see it does lengthen my lashes and makes them pretty thick, but it is on the clumpy side. I brought this mascara as my previous one seemed to smudge down after a day, and this one doesn’t even flake at all, which is one of the things it promises and one of the main reasons that I brought it. I don’t think it flares out my lashes at all as you can see, which is also pretty disappointing.

Overall I think this mascara does do an averagely good job, and I will probably end up using it up as it’s not terrible, but for the £10 I will not be repurchasing it in the future as it doesn’t live up to all the things it promises.

See you soon,

What’s in my Bag? |High Street Spy|

10 Jul

Hello lovelies,

At the moment  I feel I have bloggers block, meaning I’m struggling to find ideas of things to write about. Excuses, excuses! I didn’t want to leave you with no post, so I thought I’d do a typical blog post and go for an old favourite, ‘what’s in my bag?’

The Bag…

I’ve had this bag for a few years now, and its one of the most practical bags I own so I’ve sort of rediscovered it. I especially love it zips up for more security, a big strap and also loads of pockets which I love as I always fill my bag with loads of rubbish, but don’t want them all knocking around at the bottom like some of my bags do. It’s from River Island, and they are my favourite shop for bags as they are all gorgeous at the moment!

This purse I’ve also had for ages, from New Look, I’m not so keen on it anymore and I need to pick up a new one, but it’s served me well and stores the very little money I have very snug inside. 😉

I brought these sunglasses from Next last summer, and I live in them. The frames are a baby pink colour and the shape really suits my face shape well, they were also pretty cheap and look like the Ray Bans I want to buy one day.

If I’m going out for the day I don’t want to fill my bag with loads of make-up, so I chuck a lip balm (Carmex Classic), lipsticks (Maybelline- Electric Orange & Rimmel- Latino) and a compact powder with a mirror (Maybelline.)

I popped these into my bad when me and Liv went to go and see The Fault in our Stars, but it’s always good to have a pack of tissues in your bag for colds, hay-fever, or gum. Always be prepared 😉

My Phone…

My phone is an i-Phone 4s, in white which I’ve had for a little while now, and I have to say I am pretty addicted to it. The case is pretty new from H&M for a few pounds, but I’ve always had a gold glitter case for every phone I’ve ever owned so of course I had to buy it when I saw it! The lock screen image is a picture of Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany’s and I’ve never changed it because like it too much, and makes my phone look really pretty but personal.

The Lip Product Addict Tag… |High Street Spy|

6 Jul

Hello everyone,

It feels like an age since I’ve done a tag post, so when the lovely Kavi tagged me to do this post, I was raring to go but also slightly lazy due to the fact it’s been a while since I’ve done blog photography and editing, but I need to get back into the zone. Anyway, if you don’t follow this girls blog, you better go do that now, then continue reading this. 😉

1. Favourite Balm/Treatment

I have brought many lip treatments and balms, normally when I’m out and about and my lips are so dry I can’t go on, but no product really works for me and does a better job than Vaseline does, and it also lasts for ever! Vaseline Rosy Lips is something that has to be in my bag.

2. Best Eye-catching red

I actually got this lipstick free from Boots last year for some reason or another and wore it a hell of a lot over Christmas because red is a Christmas colour right? It’s more on the berry side, with a slight glitter to it, which also makes it more of a Christmas colour.

3. Best Luxury & Best Drugstore

These Maybelline lipsticks are my favourite drug store lipsticks ever, the colours are lovely, they go on lovely and are generally lovely. I go on about these all the time on my blog and I even wrote a review post on them when I picked them up last summer, which you can read here.

I generally prefer lipsticks over glosses, and own very few high end products, but these are my favourite high end lip products I own. The Benefit Coralista is a really pretty coral colour, which looks really natural on its own but I like to wear it on top of other coral lipsticks. The Benefit Dandelion gloss is a really natural nude colour, I’m not the biggest fan of nude lips, but this is the one I go for the most when doing a nude lip.

4. Best MAC Lipstick

I don’t own any MAC lipsticks, booo. But I’m mostly drawn to the orange, red toned lipsticks from MAC.

5. The Most Disappointing

Some people love these, but I hate these, and I was so disappointed in them as I expected so much from them as I was so excited for them to be brought out in the UK. The pink coloured one in my opinion is the worst, the colour is so un-natural and sticks to dry patches on your lips, it sort of reminded me of the lipgloss sticks you used to get in young girl magazines for free. Not impressed.

6. Liner – yes or no?

Nope, I’m far too lazy for all that fussing, even though I have filled in my lips with liners maybe once or twice.

7. Best Gloss

I received these fabulous gloss sticks from my closest friends Ellie and Sarah for my birthday last year, and I’ve loved these ever since, they are so quick just to put on and add a little bit of subtle colour and gloss, Plum Jam and Fuchsia-Ristic are my favourites from the set and are super wearable. They also smell like vanilla which I love as I’m so fussy with scents in products.

8. Something Extra

Here were my top spring lipsticks that I am also loving this summer, to see all the dets and what I think of each one, you can read the post here.

Now time to tag who I want to write this tag next, so I chose some of my real life friend bloggers to give this a go, you should also all go and follow their blogs, because they are all awesome, and have equally awesome blogs too:

Maisie’s Moments~London Bound… |High Street Spy|

2 Jul

Hello lovelies,

Last week I popped into London with my two close friends Megan and Olivia and their mums, to do a bit of sight seeing and shopping as well. Olivia and myself are regulars to London, and usually go to Camden, then Leicester Square and Covent Garden, but this time Liv’s mum suggested we go and look around Spitalfields Market. It was such a lovely place to wonder around, with some high street names, (including a pretty big Benefit Cosmetics shop, which we all found pretty exciting) along with some lovely individual shops, and some cute little market stalls.

london 2

We passed the prettiest florist at the entrance to the market, and I fell in love with this bunch of flowers. I think it’s because they are pink and very bright, so if anyone is ever going to buy me flowers, I want these ones. 😉

london 8

Even though when we left the house it was chucking it down, the sun eventually came out in London, so we whipped the sunglasses out, took our jumpers off and caught some rays and had a gossip along side the massive high rises of central London. Oh and we took some selfies, so here’s one for you.

london 1

There were a few of these little cupcakes scattered around the market, and I never actually got to try one as I was so full up from the burger I had for lunch, but it was too cute not to take a photo of it.

london 4

So this is a photo of the dresses from the shop Jones & Jones, where Liv and I brought our prom dresses from. We all weren’t aware that they even had a shop, as we brought online so that was all pretty exciting for us, so we had to pop in and have a browse of what they had in the small shop. They had some really lovely dresses, and also some more casual pieces too, my prom dress is actually in this photo, why not have a guess at which one it is? (I will eventually get round to writing a prom post before any of you ask 😉 )

london 5

I think Olivia rocks a turban, don’t you? 😉 A picture in one of the lovely clothes shops in the market.

london 6

To say we were starving is probably an understatement, so we decided to grab some lunch at a pretty snazzy place called The Diner. I ordered a cherry Coke, a yummy halloumi burger and 3 different types of fries (plain, cheesey and kajun spice. Not all for me I promise!) I really wanted some of their American style waffles or a shake but I was completely stuffed from the burger, so I had no space for that, which means I need to go back and just go has pudding.

london 7

When we’d finished looking around the market, we got back on the tube and headed to Leicester Square where we had a quick stop at M&M world, before walking into Covent Garden. I’ve been to this part of London a few times now and I’ve never managed to find Pineapple Dance Studios before, but as we were walking to the main square I finally noticed it so I had to take a quick photo. Then we did a bit of shopping, including Liv purchasing a 4 eye shadow palette from MAC and I am extremely jealous of her. 😉 After receiving pretty crappy customer service from the staff at MAC in Spitalfields Market, it was really lovely to be served by the wonderful and helpful staff at the store in Covent Garden.

Had such a lovely day in the city with some of my favourite people who I love very much. Please let you know your favourite places to visit in London, as I’m sure we’ll be going back again a few times this summer. Also if you do like this sort of post, give this a like or let me know if the comments.

See you soon,

Maisie x
