Guest Post: Back To School Make-up…|High Street Spy|

1 Sep

Hi everyone,

I’m Sofia, from Sunflower Style Blog and today I will be guest posting for Maisie! Whether we like it or not, a lot of us are going back to school. But, not everything has to be bad. Back to school also means cute outfits, hair, and makeup! Today, I have a cute back to school makeup look for you all! This look is really cute, and not very time consuming, which is perfect for mornings where we’re rushing out the door! On to the makeup look!

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

To start with, I primed my face with the Maybelline instant pore eraser. Then, using a makeup sponge, I applied the Maybelline dream fresh, bb cream. This bb cream, offers light/medium coverage, so it is perfect for days where you don’t want to wear too much makeup (I’m in the shade light). After that, I concealed my under eye circles with the Maybelline dream lumi touch concealer in the shade 02 nude. This concealer is flawless! Not only does it give great coverage, but it also highlights. I set all of that with the Revlon colorstay pressed powder (in the light/medium color). Applying powder will guarantee that your makeup lasts longer. I also recommend keeping one in your purse/ backpack for quick touch ups. To keep my eyebrows in place, I used the Maybelline great lash in clear. For eyeshadow, I used my Urban Decay naked basics palette. On my lids, I used the color Venus, and on my crease I used the color faint. To top it off, I wore the Covergirl clump crusher mascara in very black, and the Maybelline color whisper in petal rebel.

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

This look is very natural, and perfect for long school days. This is a look that I would personally wear for school, but unfortunately we can’t wear makeup at my school. I really enjoyed writing this post for you all, and I hope you liked it!

Guest Post: Revlon Balm Stain Review|High Street Spy|

27 Aug

Hello to all of Maisie’s followers!

My name is Simone, and I’m here today as a guest writer while Maisie is away on holiday! My blog is simytoe.wordpress.com if you’re interested, and you can find me on twitter under the handle @simytoe.

Anyways, enough self promo – onto my post! Since both Maisie and I are lip product addicts (as proven by her Lip Product Addict Tag and her Top 5 Spring Lipsticks) I thought it would be fitting if I did a post about a lip product. I’ve recently picked up a few lip crayons from Revlon, so I’m going to do a little review on their Balm Stain line! I’ve also tried their Matte and Lacquer versions, but the Balm Stains are definitely my favourite!

revlon 1

So last fall I picked up Revlon’s Just Bitten Kissable balm stain in 025 Sweetheart, and then last week I picked up Revlon’s Colorburst balm stain in 001 Honey. I’m not really sure why one is ‘Just Bitten Kissable’ and one is ‘Colorburst’, as they seem to be the same product to me. Sweetheart is a really bright pink while Honey is a darker, more natural looking pink.

revlon 2revlon 3

*001 Honey *

I really like lip crayons in general because of their easy application, and these ones are no exception. They go on really smoothly like a lip balm, and aren’t sticky or anything. Also they taste slightly minty which is a major bonus, for me anyways 😉 Since they are a ‘stain’, they are quite long lasting, and you don’t have to worry about all of your lip colour coming off when you’re eating.

One of my main concerns when it comes to lip products is how hydrating they are. I have incredibly dry lips that peel and bleed really easily and I find that with a lot of lipsticks my lips will be peeling within an hour of putting them on (gross, I know). However I have been really impressed with these balm stains by Revlon. They’re fairly hydrating when you put them on, and if I reapply every half hour or so my lips don’t dry out at all. I guess that’s the ‘balm’ part of ‘balm stain’! I’ve had days where I’ve forgotten to bring a lip chap with me, and have had to use one of these lip crayons instead, and my lips were completely fine!

revlon 4revlon 5

*025 Sweetheart*

Onto the colours that I got. I love love love Sweetheart because it’s so bright and fun! I don’t usually spend a lot of time doing my makeup, and I think that putting a bold lip colour on is a great way to look put together without a lot of time or effort. And especially since I don’t usually wear lipstick or lipgloss as they ruin my lips, when I do wear them I like going for a more dramatic look. However, with Honey, I can opt for a more subtle, neutral look, without sacrificing my lips, and I’ve found myself reaching for it a lot since I’ve gotten it. It’s kind of my perfect ‘my lips but better’ shade, so it adds a bit of colour and shine but isn’t too dressed up for just wearing around the house.

Overall I think I’d give these lip crayons a 4.5/5. The colours are gorgeous, they last forever, they’re easy to put on, and they’re hydrating! Have you guys ever tried any of Revlon’s lip crayons? Or have you tried any other really good lip crayons that you’d recommend? I’m sure both Maisie and I would love to hear about them in the comments 😉

Thanks for reading!

Summer Day to Night Face of the Day…

20 Aug

Hello my lovely readers,

Tomorrow I get my GCSE results and to say I’m nervous is an understatement, I think its because I’ve had the longest ever summer to think (over think) about the exams and also the results I want to get, for some of my favourite and most important subjects I’ve set myself what I want to get which is making me more and more nervous about it all.

So to take my mind of it, I caked myself in some make-up, and put together a glowy/ summer look, and pretend that summer is not nearing its end at all, as I’m going on holiday soon so it will be a look I will probably wear on holiday. I’m a pretty lazy person and ‘freshening up’ is not really something I can be bothered to do, so I tend to put on the make-up I want to wear in the evening, in the morning and maybe touch it up a little bit before I go out. So here is my holiday, lazy girl, day to night look.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

*Collecting Lasting Perfection Concealer

I pop this under my eyes into a V shape, and on any redness/ blemishes, blending with a concealer brush from Primark or my Real Techniques foundation brush.

*Maybelline Brow Drama

This is a pretty good dupe for the Benefit Gimme’ Brow, and you also get a lot more product than the Benefit one too. I have mine in a brown colouring, so it also adds a bit of definition to your brows without it looking too OTT and filled in. So if you don’t like your eyebrows to be filled in but want a product to add some colour and keep them in shape, I would highly recommend this. I normally brush this through my brows after I’ve filled them in, or I just use this if I want more of a natural look.

*The Body Shop All-In-One InstaBlur

I mainly pop this on my T-Zone and on my cheeks, in order to make my make-up go on nicer and also so my make-up lasts all day, so you can wear your make-up into the evening without having to re-do face make-up too much.

*The Body Shop All-In-One BB Cream

I’m not completely sure if I love this but I do think it gives you a really natural look, and just adds a little bit of coverage without it being too heavy. Even though it’s meant to adapt to your skin colour and I do have it in colour 02, I find it is slightly too pale on my skin so I always have to bronze my face when I use it.

*17 Eyes Neutral Trio

I love the look all the colours in this trio make together, but to create my current favourite look, I just use the pearly pink toned shadow all over my lids and use the white toned shadow in the inner corners of my eyes.

*Rimmel Quad

These eye shadows also create a lovely look together, but I use the second darkest brown shimmer on the outer corners of my eyes and through the crease, then blend to make more of a natural smokey eye look.

*L’Oreal Super Liner, Black Buster

This is a bit of a re-discovered product for me, as I used it once and decided I hated it, then decided to try it again and now love it! Weird. It’s a felt tip style liner, which some people believe are easier, but I for some reason always found liquid easier to create a cat eye. But after trying this liner again, its super easy to use and creates a really easy flick, and doesn’t rub off easily.

*Maybelline Mega Plush Mascara

Maybelline mascaras will always be my favourite, and this one gets all your lashes and makes a really natural lashes.

*Sleek Contouring Kit

I use this to contour my cheek bones, my forehead, and along the bridge of my nose, all the places on your face that your face would tan to make a natural sun kissed look, but also to make my face look less dead and pale after using the BB cream.

*Soap and Glory Mother Pucker Lip Gloss in Fuscia-Ristic

If you have not yet tried these gloss sticks, then get yourself to Boots and pick some up ASAP! Even though most people just rave about the colour ‘Nudist’, which is a lovely colour, my favourite since Christmas is the colour ‘Fuscia-Ristic’, which is a really pretty pink colour, which can be built up or worn as a really natural colour to brighten up your face.

Oh’ and guess what? I forgot to take a photo of the finished look. Bum. Just imagine I look amazing in it or try this look out for yourself.

See you soon,

Maisie x

P.S If any of you would pretty please guest post for me when I’m on holiday, I would really appreciate it, so please drop me an e-mail or leave me a comment. Thanks xxx

27 Jul

Hello,

So I don’t know if any of you have noticed but I have been trying to stick to a blog schedule where I publish posts every Wednesday and Sunday evening, and it was all going well until my parents turned my wifi off without me knowing because of building works meaning I was unable to get onto my blog and write. Failllll. I ideally need to be writing a lot now I have internet as I am away all next week staying with my cousins and actually having a life away from blogs and laptops, (I know disgusting right?) But on the plus side I have some really fabulous collabs coming up, one I am especially excited about as it is slightly different to usual. So watch this space!

*If you would like to collab or guest post with me this summer, please drop me an e-mail at HighStreetSpyBlog@yahoo.co.uk, along with any ideas you may have. I would love to meet some new blogging friends, as well as some new and different posts on High Street Spy*

Ramble over.

At the beginning of this month, myself and my friend Olivia were in The Body Shop in Bournemouth, just after we’d had a spend up in Boots, Liv turned to me and said, ‘right that’s it, we need to go on a beauty spending ban.’ (Of course that is not word for word accurate, but I believe it was something as decisive and dramatic as that was!) And because I literally was broke at this point of the shopping trip I completely agreed, as I knew it was exactly what us and our bank balances needed. Myself and Liv are very similar when it comes to our love of make-up and in a way we sort of encourage each other with the whole, ‘you really suit that lipstick colour’ or ‘buy it, you’ve been saving for ages’ every time we are in any make-up shop, which means of course we have a lot of make-up, but also a lot of make-up we don’t really like/ use, and a lot less money than we had at the start of each month. So we have changed our encouraging to buy make-up to encouraging us not to buy make-up.

If I’m honest, Liv has it easier than me, because everyday I click on the wordpress app or onto Twitter and see all you bloggers raving about a lipstick or an eyeshadow which 9/10 of the time I would properly pick up the next time I was in Boots. (Liv will probably be disagreeing but it’s true 😉 ) Over the past few years to say my make-up collection has grown is an understatement, I’ve gone from a powder and mascara wearing 13 year old to a contouring, lipstick wearing, eyebrow filling 16 year old with a bank statement that makes me want to cry. But I don’t want to waste my mascara do I? 😉 Make-up has always had this appeal to me, because nothing is the same, each brand there is something different, different textures, different colours, different products that are being launched practically every week that I need to try. For blog purposes of course. 😉 No products are the same, you might have an orange lipstick from Revlon but it doesn’t mean it’s the same from the one from Bourjois, so of course you buy both, and it in 5 different shades, and before you know it you’ve filled you basket with products realistically you don’t really need. But then again you get the points on your Boots card so you aren’t completely guilty and it was probably 3 for 2, right?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

*13 year old Maisie’s complete make-up bag vs. a tiny amount of 16 year old Maisie’s make-up collection*

So for months now I’ve been spending more than enough money on make-up, and so has Liv, so with the exception of skincare items such as cleanser, for the month of July we are banned from buying beauty items all together, and it’s almost the end of July now and we are still going strong. There was almost one time I almost caved, I was looking at the beauty section in TK Maxx (which is surprisingly good) and I stumbled across some Real Techniques Brushes. Of course I was beyond excited, so I picked up the face brushes kit with the price of £10! I texted a few people with my excitement, as I walked around holding my find, one friend told me to put them down because of the ban, with me replying, ‘it’s not make-up though!’ and Liv actually replying with a text that was equally as excited. Then to cut a long story short I got to the till and my card was rejected. Boo. But if anyone asks I resisted them okay? 😉

Even though I probably haven’t saved any money from the spending ban, due to the fact I’m spending the money I saved on clothes I needed, which I would normally never do, I have come to conclusion I do not need to buy as much make-up as I buy. Then again I already know what I’ll be buying come August! 😀

Has anyone else been or thinking about going on a spending ban, and if so what for and have you been successful or caved in to the calling of the counters or rails?

See you soon,

Maisie x

What’s in my Bag? |High Street Spy|

10 Jul

Hello lovelies,

At the moment  I feel I have bloggers block, meaning I’m struggling to find ideas of things to write about. Excuses, excuses! I didn’t want to leave you with no post, so I thought I’d do a typical blog post and go for an old favourite, ‘what’s in my bag?’

The Bag…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’ve had this bag for a few years now, and its one of the most practical bags I own so I’ve sort of rediscovered it. I especially love it zips up for more security, a big strap and also loads of pockets which I love as I always fill my bag with loads of rubbish, but don’t want them all knocking around at the bottom like some of my bags do. It’s from River Island, and they are my favourite shop for bags as they are all gorgeous at the moment!

Purse..

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This purse I’ve also had for ages, from New Look, I’m not so keen on it anymore and I need to pick up a new one, but it’s served me well and stores the very little money I have very snug inside. 😉

Sunglasses…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I brought these sunglasses from Next last summer, and I live in them. The frames are a baby pink colour and the shape really suits my face shape well, they were also pretty cheap and look like the Ray Bans I want to buy one day.

Make-up…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

If I’m going out for the day I don’t want to fill my bag with loads of make-up, so I chuck a lip balm (Carmex Classic), lipsticks (Maybelline- Electric Orange & Rimmel- Latino) and a compact powder with a mirror (Maybelline.)

Tissues…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I popped these into my bad when me and Liv went to go and see The Fault in our Stars, but it’s always good to have a pack of tissues in your bag for colds, hay-fever, or gum. Always be prepared 😉

My Phone…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My phone is an i-Phone 4s, in white which I’ve had for a little while now, and I have to say I am pretty addicted to it. The case is pretty new from H&M for a few pounds, but I’ve always had a gold glitter case for every phone I’ve ever owned so of course I had to buy it when I saw it! The lock screen image is a picture of Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany’s and I’ve never changed it because like it too much, and makes my phone look really pretty but personal.

Jemima’s 3 Top Tips For Awesome Nails! *Guest Post* |High Street Spy|

6 Jun
Hello Maisie’s readers 😉
My name is Jemima and I like doing nail art (I am no pro or anything but I do it quite a lot), so Maisie suggested I write about it for her blog! I came up with some tips on how to do nail art aswell as some pictures of my own:
1. The right tools
This one is a little silly coming from me because I don’t actually currently own and nail art pens, however it makes starting out muuchh easier if you have them. A good example is of my aztec nails, which took a long time to do with coctail sticks but could have been much easier with the pens:
jemima 1
2. Get a good design
The best way to do this when starting out is to find a picture that is already on nails, so you can see how they have done it and work out the width of the lines etc. I use instagram to look through designs of nail art accounts! (If you want to check out my nail art instagram it’s jemsnailss #ShamelessSelfPromo)
3. Always do an extra coat!
The worst thing when you have done a design you’re really proud of is when it chips the next day, which happens nearly all the time with me! So make sure you always put an extra coat of clear polish on top, just to be safe 😉
Thank you for reading! (And thanks Maisie for putting me on your blog :D) I will leave you with a couple of my favourite designs..
jemima 2
jemima 3
A quick note from Maisie: I hope you all liked this post by one of my favourite people, it’s nice to see something different on my blog because my nail art skills are pretty shocking. It’s only one more stressful until I have finished my exams all together, so thank you Jemima for helping to fill up my huge absence! If anyone else would like to collab next week while I’m still busy, it would mean a lot to me and I would really appreciate it, please comment below, drop me an e-mail or tweet me (you can find that in the side bar.) See you all soon. Remember to give this a like to show your appreciation for Jemima’s awesome nails, and I can’t wait for her to do mine this summer 😉 Maisie x

Mid- April Update… |High Street Spy|

25 Apr

Hello beauties,

Yes, it is that time again where I scroll through my phone and give you a cheeky insight into what I’ve been up to (or not up to) this month.

mid april update

Revision, revision and more revision…

B.O.R.I.N.G. You all know what it is, but that’s all I’ve been doing this half term and I can not wait until my GCSEs are over and I can have the longest summer ever! If you do want to read about how I’ve been revising, I wrote about it here. After I’ve finished writing this post I am off to revise science because it is officially my worst subject, damn my scientific dreams are crushed. 😉

I’ve been getting all Blogilates…

A while back I discovered the fantastical world which is Blogilates when I was looking for some easy exercises I could do at home to slim my legs a bit, and I am in love with it, not only has the way too perky Casey has the amazing website, (www.blogilates.com) she also has an app and a YouTube channel. All of these have super easy you follow YouTube videos for every bit of your body you can think of, but also diet plans and recipes to coincide with every exercise too and also a workout calendar if you really want to stick to it. I have been slacking this week due to the realization of how much revision I had to do, but last week I was following the Perfect legs workout everyday, and surprisingly I do it the whole way through. Promise. For some reason I find her really motivating, and you don’t even have to leave your house and get sweating in front of people, it feels like she’s giving you her own private class which I love. I really recommend giving this a go, as there is literally a workout for everyone!

Happy Birthday Lauren & Lauren…

Last week it was fellow bloggers and friends in the real world Lauren and Lauren’s 16th Birthdays. Firstly it was Lauren W’s birthday, where we ate way too much food and I watched Frozen for the first time which is now a new favourite of mine. I got both Lauren’s giant cards I picked up from Asda that week but I got Lauren W a Jack Wills bag which my mum picked out. (Good choice mum.) Then on the Friday of that week we all popped round to Lauren A’s and for once I was the first one there! The idea for her present came from when I was going through the thousands of pictures on my phone and realised the majority of which were of Lauren or Lauren and I, I would say a good 70% of them, so I decided to make her a scrapbook which I was pretty pleased with. It took me all week and my kitchen table being covered it pink glitter to make it, oh and all my brother’s colour ink from his printer! I also gave her a Ted Baker body set because she smells and a tampon. (Long Story.)

photo 1photo 2photo 3

I tried out my prom hair & make-up…

Prom is coming up extremely soon, and I have to say I am excited, I only have a few bits and bobs to pick up and I am ready to go! I know a few of you have seen my hair on my personal Twitter but if you haven’t, sorry you can’t see it. 😉 This is because I am going to post a Get Ready with Me Prom edition very soon, so you will just have to wait until then! I am doing my make-up myself and my super clever hairdresser/ beauty therapist mother is doing my hair, the other day I literally just gave her a picture of how I wanted my hair and she did it literally identically! The hair is copied from a very well known YouTuber so there’s a hint for you.

I went all mermaid…

I’m normally pretty boring but due to a lot of procrastination I ended up painting my nails like this, using a Fearne metallic polish in green and a pushing a gold glitter from the tips upwards. I might do a proper tutorial of these but for now here’s just another teaser for you.

photo

So far this month has been beyond boring, due to the exams once again! I hope you find you have a lovely Easter, tucking into chocolate eggs like me. My prom look will be up very soon, as I know a lot of you have asked me about it all.

See you soon,

My Top 5 Spring Nail Varnishes… |High Street Spy|

23 Apr

Hello again lovelies,

So a while ago I posted my top 5 lipsticks for spring but now it’s time for me to show you all my top 5 spring nail varnishes that I have worn or I am going to be wearing in the future.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

(From left to right)

Fearne (Nameless)

It makes me sad that this varnish doesn’t have a name or it was on the box I no longer have, corals are my favourite colours in cosmetics and varnishes, I think it is because they compliment my olive skin tone really nicely and they are a perfect colours to take us into summer. Fearne nail varnishes are always I firm favourite of mine, my collection always growing every Christmas.

Barry M Confetti in Dolly Mixture

I picked this varnish up last summer and I’ve recently rediscovered it in my collection, the pastel colours look really pretty for spring over brights and pastels. Last year I posted a review of this, so to see what it looks like on my nails, just click here to read that.

Seventeen Gel Colour in Mint Bon-Bon

I love this greeny colour, I think this is an colour that is super wearable all year round, the gel effect also gives it that high shine ‘gel’ look which I love.

Maybelline Color Show in Iced Queen

I love these polishes, just because there are so many at a really good price. Even though the name suggests otherwise I this colour just reminds me of the sea and spring flowers.

Berry M Jelly Hi- Shine in Blue Berry

I am currently wearing this colour of my nails, I think this tone of blue looks a lot better with a tan as it is pretty bright so it is one for spring/ summer months. This is also a ‘gel’ effect so it has that high shine finish to it which I love. I reviewed these many moons ago so you can also go and read about these polishes in more detail here.

I know this post is brief once again, but blame the revision!

What nail varnish colours are you loving at the moment? Let me know so I can pick them up for myself.

Spring Fever Tag… |High Street Spy|

21 Apr

Hello lovelies,

I am back, I have done 90% of my revision which gives me time to finish off this post which has been in my drafts for almost a month now!

spring fever tag

It’s starting to feel slightly spring like outside, which means it was perfect timing to get tagged to do the Spring Fever Tag by the lovely Blushing Beauty. Why not go and follow her? (After you’ve read this of course.)

1) What eye pallete will you use most this spring?

To be honest I don’t really have a lot of palletes, but a while back I won a Beauties Factory pallete which has some really nice browns and neutral matte colours within but also some really pretty pinks I’d love to try out this spring, then step out of my comfort zone.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

2)What blusher in your collection is a Spring must? And what about lipstick too?

The blusher I will be using a lot more is the Bourjois cream blush in a light coral colour which I haven’t used in a while. I have a olive skin tone so I think corals really compliment my skin but don’t look really obvious and make more of a subtle blush. My lipstick pick is the Revlon lip butter in Candy Apple, which is a coral/ red colour which I think will look really fresh and bright for spring, what I love about the lip butters and you can build up the colour or leave it as a subtle glossy look.

3)What nail polish do you love to wear in Spring?

As soon as it gets a bit more summery I whip out the brighter colour, and pastels as well but I really want to try out these blue tone polishes: Seventeen Gel Colour, Maybelline Color Show, and Barry M Gelly polish.

4)What is on your Spring break agenda?

Going on holiday, sunbathing, long walks, photography, meeting friends

Revising for my exams in the summer. Yay.

5)What trends are you looking forward too, fashion nail polish make up etc?

Corals are my favourite when it comes to make-up. I really want matte lips to go out of trend, because I really dislike that look! To read my top spring lipsticks click here.

6)What is your signature Spring scent?

At the moment I’m avoiding sprays because it sets off my hay fever sniffling. Great.

7)Do you have a Spring skincare regime?

I’m trying to moisturise as much as I can, every morning I do a full body moisturisation to get my skin nice and soft for prom.

8)What is Spring like where you live?

At the moment the sun is shining, but the weather report has shown me that it will be back to English weather in not too long.

9)Florals, got to have them or make them stop?

Got to have them, but they aren’t very original are they?

10)Favourite activity to do in the Spring?

Going for a stroll up to the park with my camera, sitting on my favourite bench, watching the world go by and watching the pretty view.

Hope you all had a great Easter, I tag you all to do this but I would really like the Lauren’s to do this if you haven’t already!

Maisie x
