Maisie’s Mumbles~ Positive Thinking… |High Street Spy|

13 Aug

So if you are a regular reader of mine you will probably know that I am very much open with my ‘private’ life on this blog, for two main reasons really, 1) because I feel it makes me more of an interesting person, and I’m not just some words on your computer screen and 2) because it helps me to write my feelings and what not down, as I am very much guilty of keeping stuff to myself and it is way easier than saying how I feel out loud. Normally these sort of posts are popular on my blog, just because I know many of you feel they can relate or comment me the loveliest of comments that just make me sharing my feelings worth while. I know these might not be everyone’s cup of tea and you may be thinking ‘oi maisie where’s the OOTD or review’ but this week it’s going to be a personal post, so maybe give this one a miss and come back on Sunday when I’ll be back to ‘normal’ posts?

So as some of you may know if you have been reading this blog for a while is I get really bad anxiety and panic attacks from time to time, and I believe the cause for it is pressure that is put upon me or put on by myself that I can’t seem to cope with. I feel at the moment I’m at a pretty good place in my life and besides the panic attack I had the other week in an Indian restaurant which makes me laugh now due to the randomness of this panic! Also, I know I promised to make You Tube videos this summer, and I’m still considering it, I promise, but I’m still feeling weirdly anxious about the idea, but I’m building up to that so watch this space! Okay, that is far too much negativity, now onto some positives that I need to share with you all. For the first time in a long time, I feel really content with where I am and it’s making me a lot more of a positive person which is great!

positive thoughts

So I thought I would write a post sharing 5 positive things in my life right now with you all. I didn’t want to make this a tag, as I didn’t want to tag specific people, but if you are reading this, it would be really cool, if you also write a post sharing 5 positive things in your life right now, and share a bit of positive attitude with your readers that I feel there isn’t enough of on the internet. However bad your day is, try to think of at least 5 good things in your life, and concentrating on them will make you feel a whole lot better, making you realise everything is going to be okay. So, if you write a post similar, please let me know in the comments so I can go give it a read.

My 5 positive things in my life right now:

1) I received a letter in the post recently from someone who means a lot to me, it was the sweetest thing and never fails to make me smile whenever I read it, making me feel extremely loved. I am a very lucky girl to have someone who cares so much about me, even though they have seen me at my worst, and knows me well enough to know that I have a weird love for letters even though I haven’t received any in years.

2) Knowing I tried my hardest I could in my GCSE exams is making me feel a lot less nervous about collecting my results next week. Wish me luck ūüėČ

3) My little space on the internet is almost at 400 followers, and a very large amount of them never miss a post, becoming very special people in my life, who never fail to give me the best support. It’s crazy to think that over a year ago my blog didn’t even have 100 followers and the growth overall has been pretty rapid indeed.

4) Even though this summer feels to be going really quick, I have visited a lot of places and seen some awesome people, from the simple things like spending summer evenings in a field watching the sun set, to going on a camping trip with my best friend. The little things are making me happy, happy, happy.

5) I am about to go into sixth form to study Fashion & Clothing, English Lit and History, which are subjects that I take more interest in and hopefully I will enjoy. But it also means I am one step closer to achieving the goal I’ve set myself since I was 13 of becoming a fashion journalist.

I hope some of you lovely lot give this post a try as I’d love to read them!

See you soon,

Maisie’s Moments~London Bound… |High Street Spy|

2 Jul

Hello lovelies,

Last week I popped into London with my two close friends Megan and Olivia and their mums, to do a bit of sight seeing and shopping as well. Olivia and myself are regulars to London, and usually go to Camden, then Leicester Square and Covent Garden, but this time Liv’s mum suggested we go and look around Spitalfields Market. It was such a lovely place to wonder around, with some high street names, (including a pretty big Benefit Cosmetics shop, which we all found pretty exciting) along with some lovely individual shops, and some cute little market stalls.

london 3

london 2

We passed the prettiest florist at the entrance to the market, and I fell in love with this bunch of flowers. I think it’s because they are pink and very bright, so if anyone is ever going to buy me flowers, I want these ones. ūüėČ

london 8

Even though when we left the house it was chucking it down, the sun eventually came out in London, so we whipped the sunglasses out, took our jumpers off and caught some rays and had a gossip along side the massive high rises of central London. Oh and we took some selfies, so here’s one for you.

london 1

There were a few of these little cupcakes scattered around the market, and I never actually got to try one as I was so full up from the burger I had for lunch, but it was too cute not to take a photo of it.

london 4

So this is a photo of the dresses from the shop Jones & Jones, where Liv and I brought our prom dresses from. We all weren’t aware that they even had a shop, as we brought online so that was all pretty exciting for us, so we had to pop in and have a browse of what they had in the small shop. They had some really lovely dresses, and also some more casual pieces too, my prom dress is actually in this photo, why not have a guess at which one it is? (I will eventually get round to writing a prom post before any of you ask ūüėČ )

london 5

I think Olivia rocks a turban, don’t you? ūüėČ A picture in one of the lovely clothes shops in the market.

london 6

To say we were starving is probably an understatement, so we decided to grab some lunch at a pretty snazzy place called The Diner. I ordered a cherry Coke, a yummy halloumi burger and 3 different types of fries (plain, cheesey and kajun spice. Not all for me I promise!) I really wanted some of their American style waffles or a shake but I was completely stuffed from the burger, so I had no space for that, which means I need to go back and just go has pudding.

london 7

When we’d finished looking around the market, we got back on the tube and headed to Leicester Square where we had a quick stop at M&M world, before walking into Covent Garden. I’ve been to this part of London a few times now and I’ve never managed to find Pineapple Dance Studios before, but as we were walking to the main square I finally noticed it so I had to take a quick photo. Then we did a bit of shopping, including Liv purchasing a 4 eye shadow palette from MAC and I am extremely jealous of her. ūüėČ After receiving pretty crappy customer service from the staff at MAC in Spitalfields Market, it was really lovely to be served by the wonderful and helpful staff at the store in Covent Garden.

Had such a lovely day in the city with some of my favourite people who I love very much. Please let you know your favourite places to visit in London, as I’m sure we’ll be going back again a few times this summer. Also if you do like this sort of post, give this a like or let me know if the comments.

See you soon,

End of Exams Party Outfit… |High Street Spy|

22 Jun

Hello lovelies,

All my exams are done and I’m officially in the summer holidays now which means two things 1) more blogging and 2) parties. Okay, so I’m not the biggest party animal in the world, I’m generally pretty lazy and tired all the time, so when someone says party I’m like ‘meh’, but when I get there I tend to enjoy myself, and that’s exactly what I did last Friday. It ended up being a pretty eventful and also a pretty hazy night, which is odd as I normally remember everything, but it means I get to write you all a post of what I decided to wear.

*The photo quality is not the best due to the fact I took it straight off my Instagram, sorry <3*

after exams outfit

What I’m Wearing:¬†

Dress~ Topshop (Petite)

This dress is now my new favourite. When I picked it up I wasn’t completely sure if the shape would do anything for me but after trying it on, I decided it was actually really flattering so I had to get it, it’s also great as it comes in the petite section which is perfect for 5″3 shorties like myself.

Clutch~ Dorthy Perkins

The clutch I used for the party, was the clutch I used for prom. The colour is a really neutral pink so it goes with pretty much everything, the strap also means you can dance the light away with no risk of it flying out of your hand.

Shoes~ New Look

These are my favourite shoes in the whole wide world, I also wore them to prom. The dress I wore was actually pretty casual, but these heels just dress it up and make it more suitable for parties, the red colour also went perfectly with the grey tone stripes of the dress. Even though these shoes are pretty high, the platform and chunky heel make them a lot more comfortable to wear than a normal heel, I would say you can dance for a good 2 hours before you feet begin to hurt.

Necklace~ Topshop

Even though you can’t see it, I’m sure many of you know what my favourite necklace looks like as I wear it all the time! It also helps to dress up the pretty casual dress.

The 5″8, Size 6 Girls…|High Street Spy|

1 Mar

Hello lovely’s

The fashion weeks come and go, and each time raises the issues of the size of the models who walk the catwalks, normally 5″8 minimum height, with the size 6 frame. Before we get too into this, these are just my thoughts that I hope will provoke thought from you lot, so you do not in any way have to agree with me and also if there are comments please respect other people’s views on the matter of size.

So basically as I write this I am tucking into 2 digestives and a cup of tea (one sugar) and feel a bit conflicted as a teenage girl, you need to be happy in your body, but you also can’t be ‘big’ because that is obesity, which is considered bad? I guess that’s what confuses me, because if I was a size 16, I am meant to feel confident and happy, but then also should be considering weight loss. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel the line between obesity and size have been blurred and as a teenager it’s hard to understand what is correct? And that has inspired this post.

Okay, back to body image in fashion. 2 or 3 years ago this subject really interested me, I even made a YouTube video about it being the frizzy haired opinion filled 13 year old I was, but now I’m older and more into high end fashion I feel I can look at high fashion models in a different light. Firstly I think that we need to establish that high fashion and high street fashion are very different, which is very apparent in the photo below. (No offence if you wear hats like that.)

So if the clothes are so different, why should the models not be different. The models used in high end fashion are 5″8, size 6 girls because the clothes are designed for that and look the most effective to be shown in that way, in a way they are hangers. Hangers display the clothes and hang in the best way, and they all look the same because that design works the best. The models just display the clothes, you are not looking at the model themselves, unless they are the famous sort, you are looking at the clothes, so if they were different it would take from the clothes. Of course, I do not in any way agree with models who starve themselves, high fashion has always had this template of model, therefore it will be so hard to change. But these women who walk the catwalks are still ‘real women’; I hate when people say ‘real women should walk the catwalk’, ‘they aren’t real women’, ‘real women aren’t in fashion’. Well however big or small, short or tall a women is, they are very much alive and have boobs upon their chests (even if they are tiny) they are real women.

People are forever mocking high fashion, laughing at the crazy designs, and how they don’t look like ‘normal’ clothes most of us wear, so if we don’t expect high fashion to look like how we dress everyday, we shouldn’t expect the women to look like us, because most of us would never wear those clothes out to Tescos would we? In a way high fashion is like an art gallery, we go to art galleries to admire the art, sometimes it’s crazy or just a chair in the middle of the room, we admire it for what it is and the thought and effort that has gone into it, but we would never have it in our house, but instead buy more commercial art. Just like what we wear. High fashion and high street need to be seen and appreciated in completely different ways, just like art. Along with the models.

Then it comes onto high street models, this is where I believe the whole ‘be happy in your size message’ should be seen more, because these are the ‘normal clothes’. Where girls with of all sizes, curves or not, should be celebrated because these are the clothes we all wear. Instead of trying to change something that doesn’t even apply to many of us, high end fashion, we should change what really does. But this does not mean get rid of the size 6 high street models, because size 6 girls still exist, as much as a size 16. Clothes should be modeled on a mix of girls in fashion campaigns, so it becomes the ‘norm’ not just replace all the smaller models. Like a pick n’ mix of mix of women. Oh’ but it doesn’t end there, throw in some different ages along with the different sizes and boom perfect pick n’ mix. (I like pick n’ mix) In a way I think that will help my confusion with body image.

A pick n’ mix style M&S advertising campaign

¬†I was a bit nervous about posting this because I know people have lots of different opinions on this topic, but I hope you can appreciate my thoughts and if you have your own, please feel free to comment them below because I love a debate. ūüėČ I could have gone on longer but I didn’t want to bore you, but if you liked this rant style post, let me know and I’ll give you some more of my thoughts on some more fashion/ beauty topics.

Does this count as a rant? Because I got quite a few of you wanting more Maisie rants.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

50 Things I Want To Do With My Life…

25 Nov

Hello beauties,

I know it’s been a while, I’m sorry but I’ve had so much revision I think I am slightly drowning in it and I’m the worst at creating a work/ life/ blog balance, but I’m working on it. So basically this post inspired by something someone (we won’t name names) said to me, he¬† I mean ‘they’ said, ‘you want to do too much in a short space of time… So wait for when you’re older and I promise you everything will be amazing.’ Firstly that was very deep but to be honest it is true, I want to do so much stuff now because the future is just too far away for my liking. Anyone else?

So I thought I’d do a sort of deeper post as people seem to like these (along with ranting ones, you strange lot!) I have a lot of stuff I want to do with my life because I just find the world a super exciting place, so I thought I would write them down (50 to be precise) and share them with you lot. These are ¬†not in the order of importance to me, these are in the order in which I remembered things and added them, even though some are a super must for my life. I want to do them all, maybe plus a few more.

1. Dye my hair blonde

2. Design my own t-shirts/ nail varnishes

3. Write (and finish) a book

4. Inspire someone

5. Create a ‘highlight’ in my year

6. Do something wonderful

7. Spend Christmas and New Year in New York

8. Climb a big tree

9. Meet 1D and kiss at least one of them

(With tongues? Hmm I don’t know. Might get arrested.)

10. Meet Anna Wintour and sit front row with her at Burberry LFW show

11. Reenact Titanic on a cruise ship

(Ideally with Leonardo Dicaprio but anyone who is willing to do it with me will do.)

12. Surf a really big wave

13. Write for a glossy magazine

(Vogue, Elle, Cosmo… *Sighs*)

14. Be on the cover of a magazine

15. Create a flash mob with hundreds of dancers

16. Dance en pointe properly

17. Go to the Post- It Note Factory

(Question: Do they have a factory? If anyone knows where it is, please comment below. I’m a bit of a weirdo fan ūüėČ )

18. Go to Summer Bay, Australia (Home & Away)

19. Have Breakfast at Tiffany’s

20. Ride a horse on a beach

21. Become a ‘blogger’

22. Start a (well known) YouTube Channel

23. Do the Empire State Building (stair) Run.

(Found out today there are¬†1,576 steps. Imagine the toned bump and legs I’ll have after running up all those)

24. Go up the Eiffel Tower

25. See the Northern Lights

26. Find the bridge in Paris I read about in a book.

(Firstly I need to find the book. If anyone can tell me the title of a book about a girl who goes on holiday with some bitchy girl friends but runs off to Paris to find her dad. Meets some Americans and falls in love with one of the boys where he tells her in 2 years to meet her at this bridge, I will be very very grateful. I read so much I can’t remember the title.)

27. Jump into the sea

28. Do the splits

29. Sunbath in Bora Bora

30. Play a game of cricket without getting hit in the face/ falling over.

31. Press the button on the Lottery.

(The same person who inspired this, crushed this dream also by telling me the big button doesn’t control the machine. No one ever told me this! Dreams= crushed.)¬†

32. Turn on Christmas lights

33. Eat a cr√®me br√Ľl√©e

34. Have high tea in Bath

(The place Bath, not a bath.)

35. Be in a film

36. Carve a pumpkin and go trick or treating

37. Speak french to a french person convincingly and have them understand me

38. Win a game of bingo

39. Put a padlock on the padlock bridge

(Note to self: get a boyfriend. Putting a padlock on by yourself just doesn’t have the desired affect.)

40. Go to the West End, London

41. Go in the Tardis

42. Cut (a brave) person’s hair

43. Own a MAC product

44. Have a blogger meet up

(Yes. This must be done. Get that everyone?)

45. Sky dive

46. Be on radio/ TV

47. Buy a Mr Whippy Ice-cream machine

48. Drive a car

(Did this the other day. I am pretty pro at it already.)

49. Prove you wrong.

50. Reach 1,000 blog follows.

(Yeah I know. Just a dream.)

Now for some inspiring (maybe a little cheesy) pictures. I have these sort of pictures as my background image, just to always remind me to work hard whatever people say about them, especially the dreams that mean a lot to me.

My inspiration…

8 Sep

Hello beauties,

The other day I was watching Breakfast at Tiffanys for the first proper time in my life (I know but I’m only 15) and even though it was a pretty long film, I completely feel in love with the film and Audrey Hepburn.

My new favourite film, Breakfast at Tiffanys

I’d admired Audrey Hepburn for a while now, more for the way she looked because you always see her picture around but I’d never seen a whole film with here in before but she was more of a face to me than an actress. I thought Breakfast at Tiffany was going to be a really old film that I wouldn’t understand but I was so surprised how modern the film seemed and also how Audrey acted too. She isn’t just a very pretty face.

I just can't get over how beautiful she is.

I just can’t get over how beautiful she is.

I guess I feel I can connect to her in a way, not only do we both have really dark big eyebrows, but she’s just independent and is clever and has gone out there and got exactly what she wanted. In my opinion she’s an inspiration for women. Audrey Hepburn will always be remembered, she wasn’t an actress who had 5 minutes of fame, and ended up disappearing or on Big Brother (yes, I know that wasn’t around in those days but it happens now days) she made a name for herself, and worked hard to earn that name and made herself an icon and an amazingly pretty one at that.

Touching up her lipstick in a completely classic and gorgeous outfit

I’m not saying I want to be an icon like her and be remembered by everyone in the whole world, but I do want to be something, not just disappear into the background, I want to be remembered for something, and when I find out what it is, I’ll let you all know! ūüėČ My dad said to me recently, ‘Whatever you do with your life, make sure it makes a difference to the world in some way.’

tabbycakey:Audrey Hepburn en pointe

Miss Hepburn messing around en pointe! Reminds me of myself a bit ūüėČ

So from now on I’m going to Audrey Hepburn my way through life, wide eyed, big eyebrowed and making myself known.¬†Touching up my make-up as I go, just like Audrey does, oh’ and occasionally muck about on pointe and pretend I can really do ballet en pointe. (Bet you’re glad to hear that Lauren! So if that is a bit cryptic if you don’t know about Lauren, but she’ll know what I’m talking about.)

Before the summer holidays, I went to the careers adviser, and I ended up being there for 2 hours when the appointment was only 40 minutes or so, and that was because she was the first person who actually didn’t question me or what I wanted to do, and I put that down to her knowing. I told her I really wanted to be a blogger, and she didn’t go ‘that’s not a job’ or ‘can you really earn money from that?’ She agreed and told me to ignore what everyone says because it’s my life and I don’t want to stay living in my small town anyway, and the people who judge me now for writing a blog, won’t be laughing anymore when I’m successful.

‘Nothing is fun about being in the wings when you have the chance to be in the spotlight.’

‚ÄúHappy GIRLS are the PRETTIEST!‚ÄĚ – Audrey Hepburn

So that is why Audrey Hepburn is my inspiration because even though she is one of the prettiest women the world has ever know, that never mattered, she believed in smiles and all women having beauty and she did very much make a difference to the world.

Oh and also, you see that picture above? That iconic look from Breakfast at Tiffanys? Well I’m working on a make-up tutorial for that look, so watch this space because I’m really looking forward to recreating it!

Who inspires you?

See you all soon,

11 questions nominated for me to answer:

1.  What is your favorite skincare line?

Simple, but I only really use moisturizer and cleanser.

2.  Would you rather get a tattoo or never be able wear makeup ever again?

Get a tattoo even though my dad would kill me! Make-up is my safety blanket, it would be hard for me to live without it!

3.  What has been your biggest fashion faux pas?

Does my hair count? If it does, it was trying to fight my natural hair with products and always wearing it up. It turns out the older I’ve got, the more I’ve learnt to love it and I do like it (most of the time), people are always saying they want my hair now I leave it.

4.  If you could only keep one pair of shoes in your closet, which pair would it be?

One of my pairs of Converse, I have a slight addiction so it might be hard to pick one, but it would probably be my navy pair as they go with mostly everything I own.

5.  What is your biggest guilty pleasure?

One Direction.

6.  What is your favorite kind of weather?

Sun. Sun. Sun. And hot, but not humid or it really messes with my hair! I love sitting in the sunshine, everything just seems better when the sun is shining.

7.  Do you have any major regrets? If so, what would you have done instead?

Not speaking to Chloe Moretz when I had the chance when I was on set of Kick Ass 2. At the time I was really scared and intimidated by her, and all I said was hi. If I could go back I would have talked to her as I realise now that she’s a really lovely girl. Hopefully I will be able to bump into her in a lunch hall again!

8.  Would you rather have the power to fly or the power to be invisible?

I’ve always thought being invisible would be pretty cool, and it would come in handy in French class. I like the idea of causing a little bit of trouble but not getting caught and going out looking terrible but it would be okay because no one would see you!

9.  Do you prefer your toilet paper to be soft, or tough?

Oh dear! This one made me laugh way too much and I really had to think about it! I’d go with soft. But I won’t go into details on this one!

10.  What is the oddest thing that you have ever seen someone else do in a car while you were driving past them?

Probably people singing, as I don’t really like to look in other cars when I’m in the car just in case you get that awkward eye contact thing, or you they think I’m a weirdo staring at them!

11.  What was your favorite childhood toy?

I used to love teddy bears, I had a bunk bed and all my teddies used to live on the top bunk and I must of had loads, I even had a register of them. Also when I was little I used to play cars, and play mobile with my brother, we used to play for hours and hours these games.
